Rural Medical Education Network

In This Issue Established by the PCPE grant, the Medical Education Network is an
administrative structure for ORME. The state is divided into five network

KUMC 1-2 Map 1: Medical Education Network Sites
Each region has a Medical Education Director (Med Ed Director), a practicing
Rural Medicine Interest Group Student Perspectives physician who also works for the school's Office of Rural Medical Education.
3-6 Med Ed Directors help coordinate efforts to mentor, train and place
physicians throughout Kansas. Each of the network sites work closely with
Undergraduate Perspective 7 the Office of Rural Health Education and Services, AHEC, Admissions and all
health profession schools at KU. Activities coordinated by the Medical
Memorial Health System 8-9 Education Network Sites include:
Abilene  Support local medical center educational programs by providing services
Family Medicine with OB
to community-based faculty and learners.
Anthony Medical Center 10-11  Coordinate development activities for volunteer faculty with ORME.
Anthony  Ensure that the medical school curricula standards are being delivered.
Family Medicine without OB  Participate in local pre-medical student recruitment activities, including

Mitchell County Hospital Health Systems 12-13 Primary Care Workshops, Scholars in Rural Health, and pre-medical
Beloit student conferences.
Family Medicine with OB  Participate in ongoing practice and community assessments.
 Recruit collaborative practices to become health profession education
Clay County Medical Center 14-15 sites.
Clay Center  Assist with locum tenens services for a variety of health professions and
Family Medicine with OB link these services with student and resident education.
 Recommend improvements to statewide student/resident incentive
Ellsworth County Medical Center 16-17 programs.
